DAILY BIBLE READING
Psalm 119:11
I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
“WHY DO I NEED TO READ THE BIBLE EVERY DAY?”
When tempted by the devil to turn stones into bread after an extended period of fasting, Jesus responded with these words: “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). Additionally, Paul explained to the Roman Church, “For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope” (Romans 15:4). Daily Bible intake is an integral part of the Christian life, because in God’s Word we find life and we find hope.
“HOW DO I KNOW WHERE TO START?”
Where you start is not as important as simply that you start. At Life Church, we use a daily Bible reading plan that follows the Daily Office Lectionary found in the Book of Common Prayer. This plan lays out daily readings comprised of passages from the Psalms, Old Testament, New Testament, and Gospels – allowing participants to read portions from the entire Bible each day. This particular reading plan offers readings that are date-specific, meaning that no matter which day you start the reading plan, you will be joining in reading the same passages as the rest of the congregation each day.
